A Year in Review: 2016

2016 was a tough year for a lot of us, filled with some great highs and some not so great lows.  I’m very vocal about my political views on instagram, so many of you know I’m pretty worried about 2017 and what’s to come.  However, one of the things I absolutely love about my job is that it reminds me on a daily basis that no matter what speed bumps we encounter in our lives it is human nature to find love, celebrate family and create joy.  It is such an incredible honor to step into my client’s families for a weekend, or just for a day, and document the celebration of love and the start of a new family.  2016 was exhausting, but exhilarating!  I zigzagged back and forth across the country to NY and back to Los Angeles all wedding season and finished off with an epic three weeks of non-stop shooting in Italy and France.

Unfortunately I can’t share a few of my amazing 2016 weddings and editorials yet as they’re waiting to be published in 2017, but there’s some more gorgeousness coming soon that I can’t wait to share in the new year!  I was so honored this year to win, for the second year in a row, First Place in the details category of Rangefinder’s Wedding Photography Awards and was named one of the top 10 “Globetrotter” photographers by Destination Weddings and Honeymoons Abroad Magazine.  I just found out yesterday that the first photograph on this post won Belle Lumiere’s Top Film Photograph of 2016.  I had a wedding included in Style Me Pretty’s 40 best of the year as well as an engagement in their top 10 of the year and had photos included in their best bouquets and dresses of the year.  I had the honor of being published online and in print in 2016 by Style Me Pretty, Martha Stewart, Brides Magazine, Rangefinder Magazine, The Knot, Destination Weddings US and UK editions, Utterly Engaged, Wedding Flowers and Accessories Magazine, Modern Luxury Brides California, Grace Ormonde, My Domaine, Cosmopolitan Magazine, The Today Show, Carats & Cake, Bridal Guide, Hochzeitsguide and more!  I still feel the same excitement today seeing my photographs in national magazines that I did when I was 16 and had a photograph of a pigeon in San Marco Square published in a literary magazine.  It’s such an honor to see my work in print or on amazing digital publications and I’m so grateful to my amazing clients and all the wonderful editors I get to work with!  Cheers to the new year everybody! Sending love, light and joy for 2017!

From Ro and Co Events…Our
Modern Gothic Romance design concept was heavily inspired by Lauryn of
The Skinny Confidential. Combing The Skinny Confidential blog for design
ideas and inspiration, we noticed a strong palette of black and white
with soft hints of blush and lavender. We were especially influenced by
the style of the condo Lauryn shares with her fiancé Michael, who
happens to be our groom model for the shoot. It has a sleek, clean and
modern aesthetic with bold artful statements throughout. Lauryn had
mentioned that her own wedding would be deep and moody, the complete
opposite of a traditional, sweet white wedding. Having seen the Goth
trend all over the Fall 2016 runways, we knew it would be the perfect
touch of badass needed to capture Lauryn’s style and create the high
fashion editorial look we were envisioning.

Danielle and Kyle were married on June 4th, 2016 at the Ashford
Estate. Danielle and Kyle both work in New York City as buyers in the
fashion industry, Danielle at Bloomingdales
and Kyle at Ralph Lauren. Fashion was a very important element to them
for their wedding day. They both attended NYU, but did not meet until
after graduation at a local bar. The bride and groom picked the lovely
Ashford Estate in Allentown, NJ as it was the perfect distance between
their two families and an easy drive for their friends in New York City.
The day was planned and styled to perfection by The Styled Bride.
Guests gathered on a sunny Saturday afternoon and enjoyed a pre-ceremony
drink in the courtyard before being welcomed into the light filled
white barn, decked out in lush florals and candles by Sullivan Owen. The
bride and groom recited vows they wrote themselves in matching his and
her vow notebooks. Guests were invited to enjoy cocktail hour in the
conservatory and out on the patio as golden hour set in. Guests were
then welcomed into the reception by the Craig Scott Orchestra, which was
bathed in candlelight and leafy green florals.

The estate has the elegant feel of a French chateau, which the
bride and groom played into with their delicately calligraphed
invitations that carried through to all the paper goods of the day-
program, escort cards and menu by Written Word Calligraphy. Guests
received a wedding welcome bag with a welcome letter and wedding day
(and day after) essentials kit from the bride and groom. The bride wore a
intricately detailed beaded gown by Monique Lhuillier with matching
veil with blush and gold tones weaved in. The dress was paired with
Valentino Rock Stud heels in nude to give the look a little edge and a
vintage beaded clutch. The bride’s bouquet and boutonnieres created by
the Sullivan Owen were soft and organic with long trailing ribbons
featuring peonies, roses and blushing bride- one of the bride’s favorite
flowers. The bride and groom exchanged letters and presents before the
first look, the bride gifting the groom new sunglasses, which he wore
throughout the day.

The bride and groom had their first look in front of the estate
as their parents and wedding party watched through the large glass
windows. Bridesmaids wore lovely off the shoulder grey gowns while the
groomsmen looked sharp in their black tuxes. The couple honored their
families by having a memory table with photographs from their parents
and grandparents weddings set at a table by the entrance and a 4 of
those grandparents were in attendance at the wedding. Guests danced the
night away and enjoyed the old fashioned photo booth before joining the
couple for a sparkler send off and an after party in the library with
snow cones, hot dogs and favors of Momofuku Milk Bar truffle cake balls.  See more from the day on Style Me Pretty’s Front Page!
