After a wonderful month in China I am off to the last leg of my trip in Singapore and Borneo. Back in September when I got the stomach flu in Africa I actually thought at the beginning that it was just a bad panic attack about Borneo. One of the girls at the sanctuary with me had been and was telling me about all the insects and snakes and I started to feel extremely light-headed and nauseous and almost passed out. However, like a normal panic attack the feeling did not pass and actually progressed into three days of puking and then a trip to the hospital and a severe case of gastro-enteritis. While I was bed bound from the stomach bug I was still thinking about my trip to Borneo and became very nervous because what I had planned was to spend two weeks living in one of the most dangerous jungles in the world and if I got sick like I was now I would be stuck in the middle of that jungle probably 5 or 6 hours from a hospital or even just running water. So I did a little rearranging and decided to explore the northern area of Sabah with a tour agency instead of my original trek through Sarawak in the southern part of Borneo. I was very excited with my new trip, but still a little sad. It sounded amazing, but would be much more fun if I could do it with someone else. When I set out on this trip I wanted to prove to myself that I could handle it and do everything on my own. However, after all the experiences that I’ve shared with you here, I learned that yes I can handle it on my own, but in the end, sometimes its more fun to have someone with you and when you travel sometimes you have to adapt and do things differently than expected. In the end, the most important thing is to enjoy the experience. So I invited my father along and he accepted the invitation with the agreement that he would protect me from the spiders and I would protect him from the snakes. Although if a spitting cobra comes my way, I am running in the other direction (sorry dad)! So goodbye to China and hello to the final month of my trip in Malaysia!
