The hyenas and jackals are the scavengers of the bush. They attack the young and weak and wait with the vultures for larger predators to discard their carcasses. When seen up close there is little true correlation between them and the friendly dogs I know at home. However they are fun to watch scavenge and fun to watch being chased away by cheetahs and lions, and when they curl up in a little ball like my dog Beejay or my sister’s dog Rheana, I do see a glimmer of cuteness lying beneath their blood matted fur.
