19th Annual Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade
October 26, 2009
Hotdog Dog!
Every year since 1990 Tompkins Square has held one of my favorite events in New York City: The Halloween Dog Parade. The costumes are outrageous and the people are friendly it is always a good time for people and their furry friends alike. Every year the costumes seem to get better and more original. My sister and Rhys brought their adorable puppy Rheana in the pirate costume I bought her, but unfortunately this is the big time and although I do believe she was the most adorable pirate dog “on her quest for booty” (as my sister dubbed her) she did not place in the competition. The winners are always spectacular homemade costumes that sometimes come with a float and matching costume for the owner. Even though we didn’t win we still had a blast and Rheana went home happy with her trick’o’treat bag full of yummy treats!
I encourage everyone to go the event next year its only $5 which is a donation to the park and upkeep of the dog run! I’m going to start brainstorming Rheana’s costume for next year…..

Hi, thanks for the great pictures! I am Django's dad, he was Paul McCartney on the Sgt. Pepper's Lonley Heart Club Band float, we did not make it in time for the contest unfortunately but the people running the contest were very nice and let us show the float and our dogs off. Thanks for posting their pictures here. Anthony J. Randazzo
My name is Edson and I work in a Brazilian website about pets called PetMag (www.petmag.com.br) and we'll create a web gallery about the 19th Annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade, and I want to know if we can use some of your photos in this web gallery, with your credits, of course. Sorry but my English isn't very good.
